CBS Gameshow “The Activist” is a missed opportunity for mainstream social change
CBS recently announced their new gameshow The Activist. The show will be hosted by three celebrities: Usher, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Julianne Hough and will premiere on October 22… and the basic premise of the show is that it “pairs advocates from the worlds of health, education, and the environment with famous figures in a series of competitions that’ll take the winners—and their ideas of seismic world change—to the G20 Summit in Italy.” Based on what we do know about the show, I want to talk about some key criticisms that stand out to me, and why this show sounds like a missed opportunity to make engaging in social change more accessible to the mainstream.
